FIRST BOWL OF RAMEN IN JAPAN – NARITA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, TOKYO

After a long long flight to Japan, we were in need for some carb refill so we tried our first bowl of ramen at the airport at a restaurant called Menya Kookai. This restaurant is located in the shopping area of Terminal 2 and is a small restaurant with only about 10 tables.

The moment you enter the restaurant, the waitress will yell out a greeting in Japanese, sit you down and bring you a glass of water and an English menu. You can be guaranteed fast and efficient service from the friendly staff.

The ramen I ordered had a clearer broth, and after trying the other ramen dishes I was glad for my order. The broth for the other two dishes were very rich which to me translates to thick and oily.  It was a nice, warm and filling dish but for my taste a little too salty and oily. We visited this restaurant as we heard great things about it so maybe it was my tastebuds acting up after a long flight but we all found it a little too ‘rich’.

The dishes overall were on the slightly salty side of the scale but nonetheless tasted good. So if you are heading to this Narita Airport, try it out for yourself and make your own judgement. Overall, impressive service and staff.
